On Sunday, Jean and I walked home from church. It usually takes 15 minutes based on our walking speed. The funny thing is that if we take a bus, we have to transfer twice. Walking is therefore an obvious choice. So we were walking halfway when it started to rain. Crazy Jean wanted to walk in the rain but I wanted to wait till the rain got lighter. We didn't have an umbrella with us and we still had Bishan park to cut through. We stopped at a dead end (the mayflower sec school bus stop) and were busy weighing pros and cons before deciding what to do next. Then after "discussing" for a few minutes, an elderly Indian lady came up to us and told (ordered) us to take her umbrella. She told us she worked in the school and there were many more umbrellas there. We accepted the offer after rejecting a few times. She told us to help her throw it away. The umbrella wasn't exactly very big, but at least it was better than nothing. I think rain does something to Jean and my mental health.

Well, in the end, we got drenched anyway but we are still thankful to the elderly lady. We were planning to write in to The Straits Times but we never got to doing it. At night, we went for the Sunday school's teachers' day dinner (no, I'm not a teacher). I think the dinner is more for teachers and their kids. And so Jensen and Jerome (cousins) were there. To mom, dad, uncle edwin, aunt adelene, ye ye and nai nai, happy teacher's day!
From Monday to Thursday, we (me, jie ying, ai, ru ri and joanne) rehearsed for the teachers day performance today (friday). We only confirmed the pieces we were playing on Wednesday I think. Music people are very last minute. For the CIP thing, I think we started actually rehearsing our confirmed repertoire a day before. On thursday, we had full rehearsal and we didn't really play together. I think it's because we weren't used to the sound on stage. We stayed back till 7.30 to practice the pieces and managed to polish them up quite a bit. Again, we were one of the last to leave school.
Mr lee is becoming nicer to our class. His speech came in hand because he just gave back the SEQ and I failed with 2/12. I interpreted the sources wrongly but at least he has given some form of hope. My combined humanities is plunging rapidly. Ever since Geog started on rivers, I haven't been doing well. I think the only reason why I was able to pass Comb Hum this term was because of the SS role play.
Today, we had the ACES day workout. It didn't last too long and it was because people couldn't contain their excitement during this that pushed back the rest of the programmes for the day. After that, jie ying and I went back to class and waited a while till 8.30 before finding ai, ru ri and joanne. We met and changed into our attire for the performance.
We practiced our pieces at the staircase out side the hall's backstage. I think we used that time quite effectively. We made some changes to the super mario score so it didn't sound like someone accidentally burned a hole in our score.
The moment we'd been waiting for (not for long though, again because we are last minute people) came. We set up our stands etc on the stage and performed. The teachers day song wasn't very well recieved, probably because it was short and they didn't know what it was about. There's always room for improvement, and so next time, we can put sub titles and have a singer. You Raise Me Up went pretty alright and I think it was more meaningful to the audience. Our surprise piece, Super Mario [theme (cut short)] wasn't really together at the beginning but we managed to get back together after a few bars. At the beginning, I could hear people laughing and I think I laughed a bit too (but no, not a laughing disorder, jie ying).
We were really thankful our performance had no major hiccups. Our first "music people" performance was during CIP a few weeks ago. That one lacked practice and it almost ended as a disaster. This time, there was significant improvement, but I don't think we'll stop at that.
After school (about 11.30), jie ying, ai and I (hahaha...) went to Plaza Singapura. We watched Money No Enough 2. It was quite funny yet portraying lives of Singaporeans. Our Singapore Spirit. After that, we walked around the mall until about 5 before going home. Ai is thinking of forming a band of music people. I think it's not a bad idea. We will probably be able to improve our ensemble playing skills if we do more of this "jamming". It's quite fun and I have recently started gaining slightly more interest in music. It is fun playing together and experimenting. Staying back late is fun but it can be costly (on time). So we should do that sparingly.
I got back the progress report today and I think I have a lot of work to do starting from now.
